Kathy and I loaded up our sport quads and made a mad dash for Fossil Butte to ride with Robert and the gang. We arrived at 9:30am but we still hadn't unloaded, suited up, etc., so they declared "wagon train east" and left for the trailhead. It was really dusty and you could see them for miles!

We take out after them and given their numbers and speed, we caught them in no time. We rode the washes while they stayed on the roads/trails. It was back-and-forth all the way to the Snake River.
After that Kathy and I worked our way back to the only really visible wagon wheel ruts left in that area on the South Alternate Route of the Oregon Trail. Unfortunately the ATV Wagon Train was due west of us and missed seeing them. It always amazes me how narrow gage wagon wheels cut such deep and wide ruts in solid rock. Lots of wagons over lots of years...
We catch up with the modern day train again on the way back west and I pulled out the old camera for some pictures.

All-in-all this is one of our favorite place to ride our sport quads. The sand washes are easy and we can hit 5th gear at WOT (that's wide open throttle for you modern day pioneers!).
